The China Trademark Office and the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board have improved trademark examination efficiency substantially in the past 4 years. Nowadays, examination duration for trademark applications has been shortened to 10 months and duration for processing disputes such as oppositions and cancellations dropped below 18 months.
Back in 2008, the two authorities adopted a series of measures, such as recruiting hundreds of assistant examiners, to accelerate trademark examination and kill backlog. By the end of 2010, the period for examination of trademark applications was shortened to 12 months. In 2011, additional measures, such as promotion of e-filing, were adopted to further accelerate trademark examination.
